Built in 1863, Campiglia Marittima Station has undergone significant expansion and modernization over the years. In its early days, it had three tracks, served by simple wooden walkways to facilitate passenger access to the trains. As rail traffic increased, a fourth track was added, along with canopies to enhance passenger comfort.
In 2017, the station underwent a major modernization project, which included the addition of a fifth track, the expansion of the canopies, and the elevation of the platforms to make train access easier and safer. These improvements had a total cost of 5 million euros, entirely funded by the railway operator, with the goal of aligning the station with modern accessibility and safety standards.

Inside Campiglia Marittima Station, there is a commemorative monument dedicated to Lampo, the traveling dog, an iconic figure in Italian railway history. This extraordinary dog became famous for his unique ability to hop on and off trains in different cities, traveling long distances across Italy while always returning to his railway home.
Lampo lived with railway worker Elvio Barlettani, who grew deeply fond of him. His intelligence and adventurous spirit made him well known among travelers and railway staff, turning him into a true legend of rail transport. After his passing in 1961, his memory has been honored with a statue located near the station.

The station features five main tracks, all equipped with elevated platforms for easier train access, tactile pathways for visually impaired passengers, and a modern LED lighting system. A pedestrian underpass, complete with elevators, ensures smooth connectivity between the platforms, improving passenger mobility.
In addition to the passenger tracks, the station also has a dedicated freight track, although it is currently out of use, as well as a small freight yard, which was once utilized for industrial transportation.
Inside the station, strategically placed digital monitors provide real-time updates on departures, arrivals, and possible service changes.
According to Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), in 2022, the station recorded a daily passenger flow ranging between 1,500 and 5,000 travelers, with a significant peak during the summer months. This increase is largely due to direct connections to Piombino Marittima, the departure point for ferries to Elba Island.
